As a company 100 percent focused on agriculture, delivering innovation to the farm is the focus of Monsanto’s R&D. Monsanto spends, on average, $2.6 million a day on research and development, enabling us to develop the most robust pipeline of products in the industry.
Today, Monsanto researchers throughout the world are actively working to discover, develop and deliver the next generation of agricultural products that can help farmers get more out of each acre of farmland. In order to accomplish this Monsanto has developed our pipeline on three core pillars, advanced breeding, biotechnology, and improved agronomic practices. When all three components are fully integrated, crop yields have and will continue to increase. Everything we do is aimed at helping to make agriculture more productive and more profitable for farmers, as well as more efficient and sustainable for our earth.

Monsanto anticipates that the combination of these three pillars will allow us to meet our commitment to sustainable yield gains in our core crops by 2030. In June 2008, we pledged to double yields in our core crops of corn, cotton and soybeans by 2030 over a base year of 2000, while reducing by a third the amount of inputs, such as water, energy and fertilizer, needed per unit produced.
We also have committed to improving farmers’ lives, including an additional five million resource-poor farmers. Monsanto is working with multiple partners around the world to make our technologies available to all farmers and increase their product choices.
